Switch Bridge Tours - Q & A

1. Who can join a Switch Bridge Tour?

Any competent rider is welcome. Cyclists must be able to confidently and competently ride a bicycle, with hand brakes, on roads with vehicle traffic that may include buses, trucks or farm machinery. Cyclists also need to be able to follow written and verbal Safety Rules and Instructions. Each cyclist is responsible for abiding by traffic rules at all times.

Minimum age is 14.

2. What kind of bicycles do we use?

Given the variety of terrain that will be covered, we use hybrid bicycles, in a full range of sizes, adjusted to fit the rider. Other styles are available for rent by request. Each bicycle comes with helmet, easy to reach shifters, bike computer and lock. Panniers, lights, water bottle, handle bar bag with map case and other accessories are also available for rent or purchase.

3. Where is Switch Bridge Tours located?

Our Shop and Headquarters, Selkirk Station, located at 800 Tyee Road, is near downtown Victoria, the Blue Bridge (Johnson Street Bridge) and the E & N Railway Station, right at the south-west end of the Selkirk Trestle on the Galloping Goose Trail.

4. What happens if there is a mechanical problem on a tour?

All Switch Bridge Tour cycles are regularly maintained and inspected prior to departure. Our experienced guides are more than capable of doing most roadside repairs. If the problem is larger, a support vehicle can be dispatched with a replacement cycle. We also offer, as part of our orientation session, a short roadside repair lesson for any cyclist who is interested.

5. What if there is a medical emergency?

All Switch Bridge Tour guides are trained in emergency first aid and carry a cellphone to contact emergency officials, the support vehicle or head office as necessary. Please inform your guide of any existing medical condition prior to departure.

6. What if it rains?

Rain gear is available, when necessary, at no charge. If the weather is too inclement a tour may be postponed to a later departure time or canceled. Cyclists are advised to dress in layers and bring clothing suitable to changeable weather.

7. What if you require a special diet?

Give us 48 hours and we can meet any dietary requirement. Most special diets can be accommodated with 18-24 hours notice.
