Patos Island Regatta Cancelled

Sidney-North Saanich Yacht Club's annual Patos Island Regatta (March 16-17) has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

The foul weather included reports of 45-50 knot winds and 8 foot waves in the vicinity of Patos Island, a lengthy flood tide, wind against the current, as well as a high wind chill factor.

SNSYC Fleet Captain Barry Hodgkin made the call immediately preceding the race in the interests of safety based on a small fleet in bad conditions.

There is no proposed rescheduling of the Patos Island Regatta in the near future. A total of six boats entered the race and entrance fees were refunded.
