Magazine M Award for "Favorite Solo Artist 2009" Hey there folks! I'm happy to say that I won the Monday Magazine M Award for "Favorite Solo Artist 2009"...quite a thrill! Thank you to all who have enjoyed the music through the years and to those kind folks who voted for me. It's given me an extra bit of motivation, as well as inspiration. I plan to record and release a new acoustic cd after my race season is done in September, so look for it early December. As honoured as I am, it's a little bittersweet as I respect the work of my fellow nominees greatly. I want everyone to win! As mentioned in the attached article, I've worked with many groups over the years and every one of those have groups contributed to my receiving this tip of the hat. I'd like to thank them all. I am honoured to be associated with them. That said, I must express my gratitude to a special few that have assisted me greatly in my endeavour to create fun, high-quality improvisational music. They were not simply "side musicians" but an integral part of the whole. Special thanks to: Clark Brendon, Bill Johnson, Damian Graham, Gregory Shea, Devon McCagherty, Nick LaRiviere, Lee Hutzulak, Dave Lang. Ok, I've got to get out on my bike... - sincerely, Casey Ryder
CD Review - "Here" The hardest working man in showbiz (or at least Victoria), Casey Ryder is everywhere, performing with his bands The Swingin' Bachelors, Twango, himself and his Trio or solo. Or as a guitarist or bassist in someone else's band. One month this year alone he played 25 gigs, so if you haven't heard of him yet you seriously need to get out more. Ryder's songs are influenced by a deep palette of swing, blues, jazz, rockabilly, rock and Latin, all of which you'll hear on the 13 tracks on Here (plus three bonus tracks from his 1999 outing with the Bachelors, Occasional Fidelity) and Ryder handles all the vocals, guitars, basses and even the organ. Listen for the zingy lap steel solo on "Big Jim & the Twins," the jazzy tongue-in-cheek big band feel of "Ambisextrous" and the swinging "Happiness Won't Buy You Money." What's not to like about playful music for dancin', drinkin' or plain ol' listenin'? - Dana McNairn, Monday Magazine, July 19/2006
CD Review - "Here" This Victoria native is as diverse a writer as they come! Id say this album is Casey struttin his stuff, and hes got lots of stuff to strut! Hes got a tune for every occasion. For speedin around in your car hes got Roadblock, for the dirty thirties its Gold Digger, country, well its Here, rag its the hilarious Ambisextrous, Two to Tango says it all, a bluesy feel with Bad Apple and the list goes on.. and on. This is a varied music collection album, and I have to say this guy can sing anything and very well! E.B. Bluesday, CKUW 95.9 FM,

"Good band, good rhythm...thanks!"
The
Swingin' Bachelors are a smokin' Victoria unit that specialize in a "hot
club" jazz style that would fit well in a Ritz Brothers movie... You can
practically smell the martinis and cigars emanating from this well-written material,
as it proceeds from the sublime to the ridiculous... - Monte Nordstrom, Cosmic Debris
While swing and jazz have surged in popularity in the past decade, these swingers have been entertaining audiences with their own style of swing before it became the "in" thing to swing... Ryder and Shea, the Swingin' Bachelors songwriters, take the traditions of the piano greats and other jazz forefathers and expand on them incorporating many styles and their own interpretations of swing... - Jeanin Soodeen, Victoria News
The Swingin' Bachelors - a cheeky jump blues/jazz combo - is one of the city's busiest bands... sharp musical skills and dogged persistence have carved out an enviable niche for the Swingin' Bachelors... - Adrian Chamberlain, Victoria Times
