Tracey Gibson - Easter Seals Regatta (Interview)

This year marked the 6th Annual Easter Seals Regatta, where the Vancouver Island sailing community raised their sails as well as funds for children with disabilities. What follows is an exclusive Westcoastsail.com interview with Tracey Gibson, Event Coordinator for this year's regatta.

westcoastsail:

Tracey, how long have you been involved with the Easter Seals Regatta?

Tracey:

I have been volunteering for the past 5 years and am coordinator this year. I was involved for the last 5 years as event manager.

westcoastsail:

How many boats were in the race?

Tracey:

44 boats with 1 from out of town (Vancouver).

westcoastsail:

How much money did the silent auction raise?

Tracey:

About $3500. We still have the money coming in from the balloon raffle tickets being sold.

westcoastsail:

How much money do you expect this year's Easter Seals Regatta to raise?

Tracey:

Well, we have over 400 raffle balloons to sell at $4.00 each or 3 for $10.00 and a Keg dinner where a portion of the proceeds from the dinner tickets is coming directly back to the society. We are expecting $5000 or more on-site and hope to raise over $60,000.00 in total.

westcoastsail:

How many business sponsors are there?

Tracey:

Over 250 with some of the Major Sponsors being BMO Nesbitt Burns, Pacific Yachting, Vancouver Island Brewery, The Ocean 98.5, Uniglobe Pacific Travel, The Keg Steakhouse, Cascadia Brands, The New VI and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club.

westcoastsail:

How many volunteers were out here this year?

Tracey:

We've got over 50 volunteers for this race and the various events. Most of the volunteers come from BMO Nesbitt Burns.

This year's 6th Annual Easter Seals Regatta saw a great turn out and lots of sunshine. The evening brought a catered Keg dinner and a live band called "Elmore's Bar & Grill" that played in the afternoon on the lawn of Royal Victoria Yacht Club. From all of us here at Westcoastsail, we would like to thank this year's volunteers, racers and spectators who made this a fun and enjoyable experience!
