AMOEBA MUSIC CELEBRATES ITS NEW LABEL WITH A LIMITED ENGAGEMENT CALIFORNIA TOUR

Amoeba rolls out its highly anticipated Gypsy Caravan tour featuring the legendary David Grisman

December 26th 2005, San Francisco, California - Amoeba Music celebrates the launching of its new major independent record label with a series of California engagements featuring a stellar line-up of world class Gypsy Jazz performers. Sharing the bill with renowned mandolin master David Grisman are premier Amoeba artists Stephane Wrembel, Brandi Shearer and the Robin Nolan Trio. Also introducing the prodigious young talents of Sammo and the Gypsy Kids, featuring Sam Miltich and Samson Grisman.

On Jan. 20, 2006 the Gypsy Caravan will kick off with two nights at the celebrated Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. It then rolls north, playing theaters and large clubs throughout the Bay Area and Santa Cruz, including the prestigious Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley. “I want to bring gypsy jazz and our new artists to the public in a way that’s never been seen before,” says label head and Amoeba owner Dave Prinz. “The raw emotion, talent, and virtuosity of these acts is electrifying.”  Called “The World’s Greatest Record Store” by Rolling Stone magazine, Amoeba Music has been pushing the envelope and changing the face of retail music for 15 years.  In keeping with its avant-garde reputation, Amoeba’s new label has chosen to debut with Gypsy Jazz, a genre that defies traditional description and may otherwise be overlooked by big business record labels. “We feel we’re really on the brink of something totally new and extraordinary,” says Prinz. “This tour is what Amoeba Music is all about.”

The Robin Nolan Trio from Amsterdam and acclaimed San Francisco singer Brandi Shearer will perform selections from Amoeba’s first release Rendezvous at the Nightery, (already called “remarkable” by LA Times journalist Michael Hiltzik) including the Nolan/Shearer composition, Sao Miguel, featuring special guest David Grisman.

French gypsy guitar maestro Stephane Wrembel then joins Grisman for a tour de force performance of selections from their new Amoeba Music release, Gypsy Rumble.
Opening each show with a dazzling display of youthful wizardry are Sammo and the Gypsy Kids, featuring Sam Miltich, Samson Grisman, Tommy Davy and Annie Staninec.
